Part of DMG's commitment to helping all children on the path to school success includes ongoing research and development on current and new assessments. All research projects are designed to improve outcomes for struggling students by helping teachers make informed decisions on effective instruction.
The PELI assessment is designed for screening and progress monitoring of preschool children's acquisition of early literacy and language skills. The PELI is comprised of four subtests (Alphabet Knowledge, Phonological Awareness, Vocabulary/Oral Language, and Listening Comprehension) all embedded in a developmentally appropriate format that is engaging for preschool students ages three to five. The measure is untimed and takes about 15 minutes to administer. The assessment is designed to identify preschool children who are experiencing difficulties acquiring these skills with intent to provide the instructional support needed to improve future reading outcomes. The assessment is given in a storybook format that is familiar to most preschool students. Each alternate PELI form is designed around a central theme. Form titles include On the Farm, In the Kitchen, A Day at the Beach, Grandma's Birthday, A Trip to Outer Space, The New Pet, Time for Bed, and others. An important feature of the PELI that sets it apart from other currently available preschool measures is the existence of empirically derived benchmark goals.

Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood (CRTIEC)
From 2008 to 2014, DMG conducted research as a site of the National Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood, funded by the Institute of Educational Sciences. This national center conducted research and continues to provide national leadership on implementing Response to Intervention (RtI) for young children in the areas of early literacy and language. The CRTIEC team was led by Drs. Charles Greenwood and Judith Carta of the Juniper Gardens Children’s Project at the University of Kansas and was composed of researchers from Dynamic Measurement Group as well as the Ohio State University and the University of Minnesota.

CARI: DIBELS® 7-9
CARI stands for Content Area Reading Indicators, and is a formative assessment for 7th to 9th grade students which is directly aligned with the Common Core Standards in Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. CARI includes a Daze comprehension measure, a Silent Reading comprehension measure, and an Oral Reading Fluency measure. Each measure is arranged in triads which include one science passage, one social studies passage, and one prose passage.

In response to the demand for diagnostic reading assessments that are cost effective, time efficient, reliable and valid, DMG is developing a new assessment series called DIBELS Deep. Deep will better provide educators with specific information for developing instruction corresponding to the key basic early literacy skills. The intent is to help teachers improve reading outcomes for struggling students by more precisely targeting deficit skills during instructional interventions.
DIBELS Deep is currently available from our publisher, Voyager Sopris Learning, for Phonological Awareness/Word Reading and Decoding. We are currently developing and researching DIBELS Deep for Comprehension, Fluency, and Oral Language.

The Indicateurs dynamiques d'habiletés précoces en lecture (IDAPEL®) are a series of brief measures designed to assess the early literacy skills of students learning to read in French. IDAPEL is designed to assess the core components of early French reading instruction and includes indicators from the following skill areas: phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, accuracy and fluency with connected text, and comprehension.
